For Shopify Payments: Basic plan charges 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction. The Shopify plan charges 2.6% + $0.30. The Advanced plan charges 2.4% + $0.30. These rates apply to online transactions; in-person (POS) rates are different (typically 2.7% or 2.5% flat).
What is the Shopify transaction fee?▼
If you use a third-party payment gateway instead of Shopify Payments, Shopify charges an additional transaction fee: 2% on Basic, 1% on Shopify plan, 0.5% on Advanced. This fee is charged on top of your gateway's own processing fees. Using Shopify Payments eliminates this extra fee.
Should I use Shopify Payments or a third-party gateway?▼
In most cases, Shopify Payments is cheaper because it eliminates the extra transaction fee. Unless your third-party gateway offers significantly lower processing rates than Shopify Payments, switching to Shopify Payments typically saves money. Shopify Payments is available in the US, Canada, UK, Australia, and many European countries. If your country is not supported, you must use a third-party gateway, which means paying the transaction fee on top of your gateway's processing fees.

Do Shopify fees apply to refunds?▼
Shopify does not refund transaction fees on returns, but Shopify Payments does refund the processing fee (minus $0.30 fixed fee per transaction) for returned orders. Third-party gateways handle refund policies differently — check your gateway's terms.
